International: NTTO/ITA US citizen departures (I-92/APIS) & SIAT outbound characteristics via
trade.gov; Tourism Analytics compilations; destination governments (JNTO, VisitBritain, StatCan).
Domestic/State: city CVBs/DMOs & state tourism offices; AAA; STR/CoStar.
Forecast: US Travel Association / Tourism Economics (May 2026).
Why coverage begins in 2019: 2019 is the last complete pre-pandemic year and the standard benchmark for measuring travel recovery. Consistent, comparable US data — NTTO outbound by country, and city/state visitor series from CVBs/DMOs — is only reliably published from 2019 forward; earlier years mix methodologies and definitions and aren't directly comparable, so they're excluded rather than shown as apples-to-oranges figures. Full-year 2026 will be added once the year closes; the Forward look panel projects 2026–2027 in the meantime.
Notes: 2021–2023 international regional splits are estimates constrained to official NTTO totals. Country figures mix series — treat as indicative (see
est flags). City & state scopes/methodologies differ (visits vs person-trips vs person-stays; fiscal vs calendar) — compare recovery % more than absolute counts. Monthly views for 2024–25 are shaped to official annual totals. Traveler-profile figures are 2022–2024 SIAT actuals with 2019–21 & 2025 estimated. Forecast scenarios are illustrative, not guarantees.
